Installation

Introduction to Installation

The following sections describe how to complete your installation of ScaleOut StateServer. The next section, Requirements and Limitations, lists the requirements for a successful installation and the best practices that ScaleOut Software recommends. The following section, Components, shows the files that make up the ScaleOut StateServer product. The Installation Steps section takes you step-by-step through the completion of your installation, and the final section, Configuration Parameters, explains the configuration parameters in detail.

License Keys

For a single server environment, no license key is required. The software is fully functional without a license key but is restricted to operation on a single server. This will allow you to test ScaleOut StateServer’s basic functionality with your application. To run ScaleOut StateServer on a multi-server farm, please contact ScaleOut Software for a license key.

Typical Installation

By default, the installation wizard soss_setup32.msi (or soss_setup64.msi for Windows x64 systems) selects the Server component for installation. This installs the StateServer service along with help files, sample programs, management tools, API libraries, and the libraries required for local client access under .NET 2.0 and higher. This installer requires the .NET 2.0 framework or later.

[Note] Note

Starting with version 5.0, ScaleOut ScaleOut StateServer no longer supports .NET 1.1.

[Note] Note

The ScaleOut GeoServer option and ScaleOut ComputeServer are automatically installed when you install ScaleOut StateServer. Their functions are enabled by a license key from ScaleOut Software that includes support for this option.

By default, ScaleOut StateServer installs into \Program Files\ScaleOut_Software\StateServer on 32-bit systems and into \Program Files (x86)\ScaleOut_Software\StateServer on x64 systems.

Optional Remote Client Support

Both installers let you optionally install just the Remote Client Support component of ScaleOut StateServer. The Remote Client Support component installs the libraries required for applications to remotely access ScaleOut StateServer running on a networked computer. It also installs the help files, sample programs, and management tools. To install only the Remote Client Support component, please select this component when prompted by the installation wizard.
